Golf FAQs

I’ve seen a “driving iron” for sale and was wondering what it is exactly (I’m new to golf and have been playing about 6 months). Is it equivalent to a hybrid iron that replaces one of the 3 or 4 irons for example?

A driving iron is not about anything. they have a 12 degree loft. there the same length as a 2 iron. there for people who dont hit with woods very well and hit irons great. i have one i use for certain corses that are very tight. there great.

if you are a mid to high handicap,(which i assume you are, being new) stay away from those, find a hybrid you like, theyre long and most important FORGIVING! ive shaved several stroking by switching.

Alot of us duffers have “problems” with the drivers/woods especially off fairways. The driving iron gives you a little more confidence off the tee or fairway. (That is if you can hit your irons)

  4. jaypea40 Says:

A driving iron is equivalent to a #1 iron, but heavier in weight.

  5. cottagst Says:

there very hard to hit my son has one,he said there go a little longer the three wood and there position better

  6. johncond Says:

A driving iron would be considered a 0 or 1 iron. It has very low loft (such as 10 - 16%) and a longer shaft. It’s for people who don’t hit woods very well, but need a longer iron than a 3 of 4 off the tee. They’re not for everyone - definitely try one at a driving range before buying.

i have a driving iron, basically its a 19 degree 2 iron that has a fat head on it which gives it more mass and changes the COG and alters the MOI…

  8. jasonbsh Says:

its basically got around the same amount of degree as a driver but is obviously the shop of a long iron

  9. beckers Says:

    just use the 3
